WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding the death of the first Black U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin L. Powell. 

"Erika and I are saddened to hear of the passing of an American hero, former U.S. Secretary of State, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin L. Powell, and send our deepest condolences to the Powell Family. 

"The definition of a statesman, leader, and class act, General Powell embodied the very best of America, and his faithful service to the United States will leave a lasting impact on our nation's history. May he Rest in Peace."
