Congressman Donalds Statement on the Abysmal Handling of the New York City Democrat Mayoral Primary

WASHINGTON –– Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding the dysfunctional and delayed handling of the Democratic Mayoral Primary Race in New York City.

"As Democrats continue to push H.R. 1 and S. 1, the Mayoral race in New York City is living proof that Democrats are inept stewards of elections. New York City, which under State law requires a photo ID when voting, still does not know who won the primary race last week. Liberal-run, New York City, is no stranger to botched elections—the most recent elections of Congresswomen Carolyn Maloney and Claudia Tenney are just other glaring examples of the systematic failures of Democrat-run elections. Take these two elections juxtaposed to Republican-led states and cities in my state of Florida, and the difference is beyond obvious.

"In the 2020 election, nearly 11 million Floridians voted, more than 4.8 million of these votes through Florida's robust absentee ballot program. Our state finalized its election results by 10 PM the night of November 3rd. Democrats like to paint Republicans as the party of disenfranchising voters, yet it's the Democrat's incompetence that leads to dysfunctional and delayed elections. Just as troubling, the media likes to uplift states like New York, California, and Delaware as the standard of voting; meanwhile, these states have the most restrictive and mismanaged elections in the nation.

"States requiring voter ID, banning ballot harvesting, regulating electioneering, and ensuring proper tabulation of all legal ballots is not racist; it's enfranchising and securing every American's right to vote. Long lines, delayed results, election chaos, and tainting the chain of custody and sanctity of ballots as seen in Democrat-run states and cities truly disenfranchises voters. H.R. 1 and S. 1 will only perpetuate these disastrous outcomes on a national scale."
