WASHINGTON – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined On Balance with Leland Vittert on NewsNation to discuss the recent House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on the rampant fraud occurring in Minnesota.
"It is clear that there are rampant problems in a lot of these programs":
"My line of questioning was very simple. Laying out the facts of how much this fraud has grown over the last four to five years. Governor Walz came into the hearing, didn't even know what the numbers are, didn't even know the facts, and couldn't even make an explanation as to why those numbers grew massively over four years under his watch. And when he was working on his budgets with the state assembly in Minnesota, he did not put in any affirmative measures to stop it. The other thing that came forward in this hearing was the intimidation of whistleblowers by the Walz administration, by the Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, by other officials in his administration, where they were intimidating whistleblowers. All that stuff came up in the hearing today. And so I think it's important as we continue to go and investigate this, it is clear that there are rampant problems in a lot of these programs."
"Governor Walz and the Attorney General Keith Ellison not only ignored it, they knew about it and did nothing to stop it":
"This is a hearing that's been scheduled for more than a month. We knew that the attorney general and the governor were going to come in here to testify about what happened in Minnesota. I think it's about making sure that we established a clear timeline of what occurred. And what came out in today's hearing is that Governor Walz was notified about this. His office was notified about this as far back as 2019, 2020, and they did nothing. Nothing at all for almost five years until you had the Shirley video come out, where they were going to these quote unquote learning or learing centers, and there were no kids there. So, it's not so much about trying to get it back in the narrative. It's about exposing the fact that there is real issues that have occurred where there wasn't any controls on money in Minnesota, and that Governor Walz and the Attorney General Keith Ellison not only ignored it, they knew about it and did nothing to stop it."
