ICYMI: Donalds Joins Florida's Voice With Drew Steele

WASHINGTON – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined Florida's Voice with Drew Steele on RightLine Media to discuss his bills, H.R. 5177 – "The Weigh Station Enforcement to Intercept and Guard Highways (WEIGH) Act" and H.R. 4922 – "The D.C. Crimes Act."

"They're just issuing the licenses because they want to be sanctuary state jurisdictions, and it is actually destructive of road safety":

"Well, look, I support what Secretary Duffy is doing here. I supported what the governor did when they had to go bring that guy back from California to make sure he stood trial in Florida for what they did. But look, here's the deal. The truth is, and you said it, California, Illinois, New York, Washington State, Oregon, they issue these CDL licenses to anybody. They're not doing eligibility checks. They're not even checking to see if you even understand English or can read English. They're just issuing the licenses because they want to be sanctuary state jurisdictions, and it is actually destructive of road safety. So, Secretary Duffy is 100% correct in what he's doing. This is why in my office, we drafted legislation to support this called the WEIGH Act. What it does is it empowers the Department of Transportation to use every weigh station in the country to be able to do these checks on English proficiency and on immigration status. You can't have people on our roads who can't read the signs. That puts every American in danger. I don't care your politics. I don't care your race. I don't care your gender. If somebody is driving an 80,000-pound tractor-trailer and doesn't know English, can't read our signs, that is a danger on our roadways. But California doesn't care. New York doesn't care. The Democrats there, Hochul and Newsom, they only care about Democrat power politics, not the safety of the American people. "

"So now we have to go through the exposure route of demonstrating to people that you have these Democrat areas that will lie to you about crime rates. They will not report. They will not retain the information":

"Look, this has been a concern in many jurisdictions. You had this thing going on during the presidential campaign where you had Democrat operatives. I went toe-to-toe with one on CNN a while back, trying to tell us that crime was down when we could see with our own eyes, we could see in our communities, we could see here in the nation's capital that it was not. And now we know here in D.C., you had the chief of police telling everybody to cook the books, not to report. One of the reasons why I filed and we passed it out of the House, the D.C. Crimes Act, so that they would actually have to create a database on juvenile crime. They would have to get rid of their crazy rules that make no sense, where somebody 24 years old could be tried as a juvenile. Makes absolutely no sense. And we had to do something about it. We passed it out of the House. The Senate, this is why I keep saying we need to get rid of the Senate filibuster, because Democrats will not agree to do commonsense legislation to make sure that D.C. is safe. So now we have to go through the exposure route of demonstrating to people that you have these Democrat areas that will lie to you about crime rates. They will not report. They will not retain the information. They're defintely not going to tell the FBI crime statistics database about what's really going on to give a false veneer, in some respects, to give a Potemkin village. That's an old term. A Potemkin village of trying to help the American people think that Democrats have a good handle on crime when the reality is they do not."
