WASHINGTON – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined Rich Valdés America at Night on Westwood One to discuss the dangerous rhetoric coming from Democrat politicians and the lasting legacy of his friend Charlie Kirk.
"You have to stand firm against the left. You have to have sound arguments for why they are wrong, and you cannot yield to their insanity":
"I mean look, the left, they really don't have respect for anybody if you don't go along with their policies. For them it's any means necessary. They will dehumanize anyone. They will try to isolate their target [and] have everybody gang up on that target. That's what they tried to do with President Trump, it didn't work. What all they care about is political power for their crazy ideas. Their tactics are totalitarian in nature because for them, there can be no disagreement. That's how they operate, there is no disagreement - everybody has to row the way they're rowing. And if you don't, then they want to call you every name in the book. And not just call you names, this isn't high school, they want to make it appear as if you're a very threat to our constitutional republic simply because you disagree with their crazy ideas. So that's why what we have to do is really embody what Charlie Kirk was doing. You have to stand firm against the left. You have to have sound arguments for why they are wrong, and you cannot yield to their insanity. It's that simple."
"So at this time where he's no longer with us, we all have to step up and carry the mantle that he's left for us":
"I mean personally it's still, it's still tough to think about that, you know, he's not with us. I will tell you he's one of the most important people to the conservative movement in the last 40 years. Easily one of the most important people to the conservative movement. What he did engaging young people all across this country, creating an organization like Turning Point which is something that Republicans have been trying to get done for a long time and they could never get done, but they tried to. And now the fact that he's not here with us makes it really, really tough. It's hard to stomach and it didn't have to be this way. Charlie Kirk didn't offend people. I mean the left was offended but they're always offended if you don't agree with them. But he was respectful in his disagreements with the left and with Democrats and with Independents. He always respected people, even though he vehemently disagreed and he was murdered for it, he was assassinated for it. That's how crazy and perverse the left has come. And so at this time where he's no longer with us, we all have to step up and carry the mantle that he's left for us... I think the way Charlie went about his business, standing firm on his positions, still wanting the best for everybody in that process, being highly respectful of your opponents even though you think their arguments are crazy and they make no sense - I think that's the path forward."
