WASHINGTON – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform for a full committee hearing entitled the “Oversight of the District of Columbia” to examine the D.C. Council’s soft-on-crime policies, the historic surge of juvenile crime in the nation's capital, law enforcement’s response to the escalating crime crisis, and general oversight of the District. DONALDS: "How much has crime decreased since the President took action?" BOWSER: "I mentioned already the, and let me look at my numbers, uh, that the federal surge produced a 39% decrease in violent crime." DONALDS: "A 39% decrease in violent crime in the nation's capital." BOWSER: "Yes, and that's on top. Let me just add, that's on top of the 26% decrease that we were already experiencing." DONALDS: "So it seems that the President's surge was more effective than your own efforts wouldn't you say? Last time I checked, 39% is way higher than 26%."
