ICYMI: Donalds Joins Prime with Linsey Davis

WASHINGTON – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined Prime with Linsey Davis on ABC News to discuss the passage of his bill H.R. 4922 – "The D.C. CRIMES Act", the dangerous political rhetoric coming from the left, and President Trump's promise to make our cities safe again.

Watch the full interview here.

"We might disagree on political issues, but we will respect the fact that we have families, we have people who love us and care for us, and we want to be able to go home when we’re done with our business for the day":

"Well, the first thing is, is that political rhetoric overall, especially when it comes to the Democratic left, we have to respect the humanity of, of people who engage in politics. You know, Linsey, you and myself, we might disagree on political issues, but we will respect the fact that we have families, we have people who love us and care for us, and we want to be able to go home when we’re done with our business for the day. And I think that’s the overarching theme that everybody has to really get to. Keep your opinions, we respect that. Be strident in your views, we respect that, but respect the humanity of all people. I think on Capitol Hill, there are discussions going on right now as as I speak to you about different ways to address the security concerns for members of Congress. Obviously, the leadership, both parties, they have security details provided by the Capitol Police. A lot of members do not have those details, and I think it’s important that they have an ability to secure themselves and secure their families."

"You do not have safe streets in the nation’s capital. And so that’s why I anticipate that the D.C. city council and the mayor should continue to support these efforts if we want to allow for D.C. to stabilize and to be a safe city, like all Americans deserve for it to be":

"Well, one thing let’s be clear - Washington D.C. is not a state, it is the federal enclave. Article One, Section Eight, Clause 17 of the United States Constitution says that the dealings of the federal enclave, which is Washington, D.C., are the purview of the federal government, which is obviously the President of the United States and both chambers of Congress. The reason why we’ve had to deploy the National Guard is because the D.C. city council did not take the safety and security of the nation’s capital seriously. And so President Trump, which he promised on the campaign trail, is taking that seriously - that’s why the National Guard is being deployed. The data over the last 30 days is clear. Crime is down in Washington, D.C., murders extremely have plummeted in Washington, D.C. Carjackings plummeted, battery plummeted. Um, these are the things that allow for a city to be safe. We understand the cost, but the question becomes it’s more of a cost burden - you do not have safe streets in the nation’s capital. And so that’s why I anticipate that the D.C. city council and the mayor should continue to support these efforts if we want to allow for D.C. to stabilize and to be a safe city, like all Americans deserve for it to be."
