WASHINGTON – This morning, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined Wake Up America on Newsmax to discuss Florida's crackdown on illegal aliens obtaining and possessing Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) and President Trump's efforts to reduce crime in the District of Columbia.
"President Trump is stepping up and leading... and that's making sure that the nation's capital is safe for everybody":
"It’s been remarkable. This is what happens when you have a jurisdiction that is unsafe, like Washington D.C., and you put boots on the ground. I grew up in New York City, I’m from Brooklyn, New York. It’s actually somewhat similar to when Rudy Giuliani became mayor of New York City and instead of having a lot of law enforcement being in the, the precincts Rudy wanted to make sure, Mayor Giuliani, wanted to make sure that officers were walking the beat and when he did that in New York, you saw what the were direct results were. Crime went down, we’re seeing that in Washington D.C... The sad thing here is that the President had to use the National Guard because the D.C. city council and Mayor Bowser refused to do what was necessary to secure the nation’s capital. So President Trump is stepping up and leading...and that’s making sure that the nation’s capital is safe for everybody."
"Florida has the responsibility to do everything it can to protect the citizens and the people who visit":
"Well, you said it at the top, it's our weigh stations, which are through the state of Florida. This is gonna be a place where citizenship and their ability to actually speak English, and read our signs is gonna be checked and that's gonna be critical. That's about safety for all the citizens of Florida - 23 million citizens in our state plus all of the tourists that are in our state. And so, if you have a state like California that's gonna issue these licenses illegally, I might add. They should not be getting these licenses at all, but if they’re gonna do that, flouting federal law, being a sanctuary state then Florida has the responsibility to do everything it can to protect the citizens and the people who visit the State of Florida."
