ORLANDO, Fla. – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined Political Connections on Spectrum News 13 Orlando and Spectrum Bay News 9 Tampa for a one-on-one interview with Ybeth Bruzual to discuss his reintroduction of H.R. 4494 – "The Flood Insurance Relief Act".
Donalds recently reintroduced the bicameral legislation alongside Senators Rick Scott (R-FL) and Ashley Moody (R-FL) to provide much-needed tax relief for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and private insurance policyholders across Southwest Florida, the Sunshine State, and the nation.

"This would be a federal tax deduction for flood insurance":
"Essentially, this would be a federal tax deduction for flood insurance whether that's NFIP [National Flood Insurance Program] or private flood insurance–pretty simple, straightforward. This is something that could happen probably in budget reconciliation. I know that the Speaker is talking about doing a second package and so that's something where you actually provide, not just Floridians but people throughout the country, relief from flood insurance. The rates continue to go up despite the coverages being the same so we just have to try and be creative in ways to help people be able to afford not just the insurance they have to carry for where their homes might be but also to continue to make ends meet."
"It's about helping homeowners":
"We just announced it the other day. I'm quite sure that we have Democratic colleagues who will want to join us in this effort. Again, this is something that should not even be bipartisan, it's really non-partisan. It's about helping homeowners, not just in Florida but of course, we have flood insurance premium issues here but throughout the country as well."
