WASHINGTON – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has responded with sweeping action to a federal oversight initiative led by Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL).
The Donalds-led initiative demanded answers regarding the implementation and effectiveness of ICE's Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program and received the support of Representatives Andrew Clyde (R-GA), August Pfluger (R-TX), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Pete Sessions (R-TX), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Wesley Hunt (R-TX), Jay Obernolte (R-CA), Clay Higgins (R-LA), Barry Moore (R-AL), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Mary Miller (R-IL), and Nancy Mace (R-SC), NumbersUSA, Heritage Action, and The National Immigration Center for Enforcement.
As a response to the pressure applied by the Donalds-led initiative, ICE has announced the termination of a program that wasted tens of millions of taxpayer dollars on social services for illegal aliens released into the United States. The agency cited "immense cost" and ineffectiveness of the program. Congressman Donalds (R-FL) released the following statement:
"Joe Biden and Kamala Harris broke our border on purpose with a debilitating policy of open borders and the ramifications of their neglect will be felt for years to come," said Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL)."Securing our border includes ending programs that entice further lawbreaking. The American people should not be forced to spend tens of millions of their hard-earned dollars on social services programs for illegal aliens. I am glad that our pressure has forced ICE to announce the termination of a wasteful and ineffective social services program for individuals that purposefully broke our nation’s immigration laws. Government must put the American people first."
