Donalds: "I Stand On The Shoulders Of Giants"

WASHINGTON - Throughout February 2023, the Office of Congressman Byron Donalds celebrated Black History Month by recognizing the careers of 28 dynamic, Black congressional trailblazers who helped forge a better future for our nation. Congressman Donalds (R-FL) released the following statement:

"I am acutely aware that I stand on the shoulders of giants. I humbly strive to honor the legacy of my predecessors by exhibiting their same defiance, courage, and inspired leadership in the halls of Congress–all of which have paved the way for leaders in my generation.

"This legacy began with trailblazers like America's first Black Congressman, Rep. Joseph Rainey (R-SC) and America's first Black Senator, Sen, Hiram R. Revels (R-MS). It inspired abolitionist heroes like Rep. Robert Smalls (R-SC) and Rep. John M. Langston (R-VA), party leaders like Rep. J.C. Watts (R-OK) and Rep. Shirley Chisholm (D-NY) and civil rights champions like Rep. Oscar Stanton De Priest (R-IL) and Rep. George H. White (R-NC). This legacy inspires me every day as I work to deliver meaningful results for the hardworking families of Southwest Florida. As Black History Month 2023 comes to a close, I am thankful for the leaders who have come before me and their valuable contributions to our nation."
