Southwest Florida Hurricane and Red Tide Instrumentation Network for Improved Detection, Forecast, and Public Awareness
Recipient: Florida Gulf Coast University
Location: Fort Myers, FL
Amount of Request: $2.129 million
Details: This project will aid in FGCU’s research to greatly improve hurricane detection and forecast skill, resulting in improved protection of Florida residents and economic sectors (e.g. housing development, tourism, and fisheries). With local stakeholder collaboration they will additionally develop a public platform that focuses on local Southwest Florida hurricane and red tide event prediction, forecast and awareness.

Amount of Request: $8 Million
Details: This would repair and provide maintenance for losses resulting from hurricanes as well as harden the existing systems.

Recipient: City of Bonita Springs
Location: Bonita Springs, FL
Amount of Request: $2 Million
Details: This would develop an 80-unit senior affordable housing community to serve seniors on fixed incomes and will replace Royal Palm Towers.
