WASHINGTON – This week, the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee advanced H.R. 5528 – "The Safe and Smart Federal Purchasing Act" out of committee and to the floor of the U.S. Senate with a unanimous, bipartisan vote of 10-0.
This commonsense proposal to evaluate potential national security risks associated with certain federal purchasing protocols is sponsored by Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) and is one of the congressman's fifteen pieces of legislation that has passed the U.S. House of Representatives during the 118th Congress. Congressman Donalds released the following statement:
"As a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, ensuring proper governance and efficiency in federal operations are paramount concerns of mine. Federal procurement processes—although often overlooked—are critical to the operation of our government and necessitate comprehensive assessment. Simply put, affordability considerations and associated national security risks of procurement procedures must be thoroughly evaluated. I am proud to once again receive the unanimous support of my colleagues on this proposal and look forward to its successful passage on the floor of the U.S. Senate."
