It was a privilege to nominate "Honorary Hometown Heroes" of Southwest Florida last week on the House Floor. Along with a few of my House colleagues, we named constituents in our respective districts that have contributed significantly to their communities' betterment:
I recognized three respective #FL19 constituents:
- Maj. Juan Martinez - the Nursing Director of Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department at NCH. Maj. Martinez has served in the military for over 19 years.
- Allison Dawson - a 30+ year teacher, with 20+ years, spent teaching elementary students within the Lee County School District.
- Captain Wayne Smith - Captain Smith was a graduate of the Air Force Academy, flew 90 F-4 fighter combat missions in the Vietnam War, and was a five-year POW at Hanoi Hilton.
All three of these people have made great sacrifices and great strides to improve our community, empower those around them, and uplift their neighbors. Southwest Florida is made up of inspiring leaders and it was a privilege of a lifetime to recognize these figures on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
