I joined several of my fellow GOP House members in introducing several amendments to the bloated and misguided American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Less than 10% of this bill goes to COVID relief, and the other 90% is for underground railroads and bridges to Canada.

This past week, the House of Representatives convened to discuss and vote on numerous bills, including H.R. 1 - For the People Act and H.R. 5 - The Equality Act.

The 'For the People Act' is referred to by supporters as the "for the people act," despite stripping away state officials and the people's election rights. This legislation federalizes states' electoral processes while also stripping away states' constitutionally granted authority to control their elections. As a believer in free and fair elections, I opposed this bill to preserve and protect all Americans' voting rights.

Every action I take as the Representative of Florida's 19th Congressional District is to uphold the freedoms granted to Americans by the Constitution, and H.R. 5 'The Equality Act' directly strips away religious freedoms, parental rights, and individual liberties. I voted against this bill to prevent liberal gender studies from being mandated in schools by the federal government.

'GOP Rising Star Rep. Byron Donalds to be Featured on Stacy on the Right'

District Updates

In honor of Black History Month, I hosted a Small Business Roundtable with House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) with a focus on Black-Owned Small Businesses.

Together, we met with several Black-Owned Small Businesses in Florida's 19th Congressional District to discuss the Paycheck Protection Program and to answer any questions on further relief for small businesses in Southwest Florida.

It was a privilege to nominate "Honorary Hometown Heroes" of Southwest Florida last week on the House Floor. Along with a few of my House colleagues, we named constituents in our respective districts that have contributed significantly to their communities' betterment:

I recognized three respective #FL19 constituents:

Maj. Juan Martinez - the Nursing Director of Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department at NCH. Maj. Martinez has served in the military for over 19 years.
Allison Dawson - a 30+ year teacher, with 20+ years, spent teaching elementary students within the Lee County School District.
Captain Wayne Smith - Captain Smith was a graduate of the Air Force Academy, flew 90 F-4 fighter combat missions in the Vietnam War, and was a five-year POW at Hanoi Hilton.

All three of these people have made great sacrifices and great strides to improve our community, empower those around them, and uplift their neighbors. Southwest Florida is made up of inspiring leaders and it was a privilege of a lifetime to recognize these figures on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.

Serving the hardworking men and women of Florida's 19th Congressional District is my distinct honor and privilege. It's time Washington works for our community's values, and every day I will always strive to ensure your government is working for you.
