WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) issued the following statement denouncing the Biden administration's plans to create a "Disinformation Governance Board" to "combat" so-called misinformation. 

“Once revered for their staunch support of freedom of speech and thought, today's Democrat Party is on an Orwellian blitz to further their intentions to control the American public into submission to their radical ideology. Biden's creation of a 'Disinformation Governance Board' is a farce and solely calculated to cancel speech they deem harmful to their subjective and almost blatantly false conception of truth. This outrageous plan comes just days after billionaire entrepreneur and purveyor of free speech, Elon Musk, upended the Democrats' safe zone on Twitter with his recent audacious purchasing of the social media juggernaut.

“For our Constitutional Republic to function correctly, the freedoms outlined in the Constitution must remain unabridged, especially regarding Freedom of Speech. Nowhere in the First Amendment does it say anything about the government needing to play the role of policing which speech is allowed and which isn't. This Amendment protects all speech, even speech we don't like. The path the Democrats are going down is extremely dangerous to our Republic and the Constitution that governs it. The only thing this so-called Governance Board aims to do is erase alternative viewpoints from the conversation and create the foundation for a state-run media that parrots the talking points of the Democrat Party.  

“I stand with Elon Musk but more importantly, I stand for our founding principles and the need for Freedom of Speech as outlined in the First Amendment. Today's Democrat Party 'ain't your father's Democrat Party.'”
