WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) issued the following statement regarding his vote opposing the mismanaged, fiscally irresponsible, and superfluous $28 million blank check for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“In typical fashion, Democrats and career politicians in Washington think the only way to solve a problem is simply by throwing money at it. This outdated thinking is bankrupting our nation, and I came to Washington to dismantle this economically inept lawmaking.
“For months, Republicans sounded the alarm about this looming baby formula crisis, and Biden was asleep at the wheel. Now, millions of parents are franticly searching for baby formula. Instead of slashing burdensome regulations and easing trade restrictions, Democrats on Capitol Hill seek $28 million for the FDA, the agency responsible for this crisis. The solution is not increasing the FDA’s funding. More money and more government regulation have never solved any issue in America, and it won’t solve this one.”
Congressman Donalds supported H.R. 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by Rep. Michelle Steel (R-CA). Introduced with Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT), the legislation creates certainty for Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) recipients and infant formula manufacturers in the event of another emergency or supply chain disruption. H.R. 7791 passed the House by a vote of 414-9.
