Last week, the House of Representatives stood in legislative recess, allowing me ample time to travel through the district and meet with various organizations, business leaders, and residents to discuss critical issues facing Southwest Florida.
As inflation reaches a 40-year high, Southwest Florida families are struggling. I've met several members of our coastal community that have been severely financially impacted by rising inflation, the supply-chain crisis, and the national labor shortage—all caused by the disastrous policies of President Biden and his administration. Over the last year, gasoline prices have increased 48%, and grocery prices have risen 10%, causing extreme financial strain for Southwest Florida's working-class families. As the White House plays the blame game and downplays its role in this historic inflationary period, make no mistake: this is the Biden Price Hike. President Biden's reckless and out-of-control government spending is the primary cause of the economic calamity we are in today. The ongoing humanitarian crisis at our southern border continues to be dismissed by elite Democrats in Washington. Our border agents are overwhelmed and overworked protecting our republic from the insurmountable invasion caused by Joe Biden, the open-border president. Every day that our southern border remains open and vulnerable, our sovereignty is challenged. Title 42 remains the last policy provision that helps prevent the border crossing of unhealthy illegal immigrants—Democrats in Washington want to repeal it. Just last week, CBP announced over 221,000 border encounters in March—the highest number since President Biden took office. This administration's lack of action regarding the ongoing border crisis, coupled with the ending of Title 42, is further proof that President Biden has wholly abdicated his constitutional responsibilities as president and abandoned the American people.
