I spent last week in Washington, D.C., advocating for the values of the people of Southwest Florida, as the U.S. House of Representatives resumed session.
The Texas House Democratic Caucus made waves here in Washington D.C. last week as six of them tested positive for COVID-19 after fleeing Texas to withhold a quorum from a special session aimed at passing an election integrity bill. While the liberal media and Biden Administration refuse to label the Democrats' little vacation to D.C. as a "super spreader event", the American people clearly see the hypocrisy. Their political stunt, planned for social media, failed miserably. While the Texas Democrats traveled to D.C. on a private plane with no masks and ended up spreading coronavirus, the American people face unjust and intrusive mask mandates. Apparently COVID-19 guidelines only apply to our law-abiding citizens but not the lawmakers who praise and push for these overbearing policies. When it comes to COVID-19, the Democrat Party has proven they lack all consistency. The American people deserve leaders who follow their own guidelines as well as transparency regarding the origins and truths of COVID-19.
The Biden administration's Department of Education released new guidance for school reopening where they promoted a a radical activist group, the Abolitionist Teaching Network. The Department of Education cited the "Guide for Racial Justice & Abolitionist Social and Emotional Learning" in its handbook aimed at helping schools reopen and how the billions they gained through the American Rescue Plan should be spent. The Abolitionist Teaching Network promotes radical and racist Critical Race Theory ideology and "disrupting Whiteness". Critical Race Theory is divisive at its core and indoctrinates our children to judge others by the color of their skin rather than the content of their character. The Department of Education must be held accountable for pushing a radical agenda that fundamentally contradicts the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Last week, D.C. hit 100 homicides in 2021. This is the earliest the city has hit this record since 2003. Liberal leaders like Washington, D.C.'s Mayor Muriel Bowser have failed to support law enforcement, resulting in a surge of murders and rising crime. One of these deaths includes a 6-year-old girl, Nyiah Courtney, who was fatally shot and killed. I continue to back the men and women in blue who fearlessly face danger everyday to ensure law and order across our country. It is time Democrat leaders face the deadly consequences of defunding the police and failing to back the blue.
