While Congress stood in session this past week, my Democrat colleagues again refused to acknowledge the magnitude of the troubles occurring at our southern border.
Last week, the Biden administration announced that they would be ending Title 42 — a provision introduced under former President Donald Trump, citing COVID-19 as a public health reason to halt migration into the United States. Since taking office, Joe Biden has diminished nearly all of our nation’s security measures at our southern border but removing Title 42 is one of the worst. The move will overwhelm border patrol agents, empower smugglers & human traffickers, and signal a surge of illegal migration. This disastrous decision by President Biden will be catastrophic for our nation. This ongoing humanitarian crisis created by Biden’s open border policies has forced every state to become a border state, and I’m committed to pushing back against these radical policies. The time of lawlessness and disorder is over. Also, last week, Joe Biden announced that his administration is preparing to release millions of barrels of oil per day from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). This move is problematic politically and weakens the United States in the event of a real emergency. The SPR was not created for failing politicians to use to increase their approval numbers. This decision is reckless, irresponsible, and fails to address the root of the issue: Joe Biden’s war on American energy. Biden’s refusal to lift his restrictive policies on domestic energy producers is causing American families to suffer. This SPR release doesn’t combat skyrocketing gas prices, nor does it provide consumers with a long-term solution to these higher costs. To bring real relief to struggling Americans, this administration must cut back on regulations, promote domestically-produced nuclear energy, and empower the American energy industry. The tax filing deadline is quickly approaching!
To provide assistance to taxpayers, the IRS is offering special hours at several Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs). With no appointment necessary, taxpayers can walk in to receive guidance, insight, and help on a number of services.
Upcoming dates for these in-person events are April 9th and May 14th.
Per the IRS, taxpayers should come prepared with the following information: - Current government-issued photo identification,
- Social Security cards and/or ITIN numbers for members of their household, including spouse and dependents (if applicable),
- Any IRS letters or notices received and related documents,
- A current mailing address,
- An email address, and
- Bank account information, to receive payments or refunds by direct deposit.
