Last week, the House of Representatives stood in session to conduct legislative business on behalf of the American people.

Since entering Congress in January, I have sounded the alarm on the unraveling border crisis resulting in more than one million illegal immigrants finding refuge in America, dramatic increases in fentanyl, and billions of dollars in the pockets of drug and human traffickers. While the crisis unfolding in Del Rio is highly troubling, this is only one of the many areas on our southern border where illegal immigrants are inundating our country. This administration's strategy to this crisis is to hide the media cameras, transport illegals across the country, and pretend this crisis doesn't exist—I will not let them get away with this unconstitutional dereliction of duty.

Additionally, Democrats on the House Budget Committee rapidly pushed through Biden's $4.3 trillion 'Build Back Better Act' that will be the most expensive spending package in U.S. history. This socialist spending spree will impose a radical agenda upon the American people. I proudly voted 'No' on this disastrous 2400 page legislation.

Community Engagement

I want to congratulate an American Hero and lifelong SWFL resident, United States Marine Corps Capt. Michael Higgins on being named the 2020 Lt. Col. Michael D. Kuszewski Marine Corps Intelligence Officer of the Year!

Capt. Higgins has dedicated his life to serving our nation and this prestigious award acknowledges his character, mental toughness, patriotism, and selfless determination. Capt. Higgins exemplifies the very best of the Marines and the United States, placing God and country before himself, and it is an honor to serve as his Member of Congress.

I want to thank U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Col. James Booth for participating in my Water Tele-Town Hall last week. I appreciate his openness and transparency as he answered questions and updated the people of Southwest Florida on various water projects and the impact they will have on our communities.

Water serves as Florida's most important natural resource and I am committed to supporting initiatives that prioritize the preservation and protection of our water. I look forward to hosting more of these events in the future.

Guy Thomas and Mark McGarity were both beloved track coaches in Southwest Florida. In July of 2021, they both unfortunately passed away leaving behind grieving families and a heartbroken community.

Guy Thomas, a coach at Dunbar High School, and Mark McGarity, who coached at Lely High School, both mentored students encouraging them to be the very best version of themselves.

My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones during this difficult time. It was an honor to recognize their service to the Southwest Florida community on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Legislative Updates

Last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi brought forth the most radical pro-abortion legislation ever for a vote. This indefensible bill removes every protection for the unborn and allows taxpayer-funded abortions up until birth.

I proudly stand for life and voted NO on this heartbreaking bill.

Last week, the House Budget Committee held a markup and voted on Biden's $4.3 trillion Build Back Better Act. The 2400 page bill is the most expensive package in U.S. history. Democrats on the Budget Committee only gave Republicans 48 hours' notice of the hearing as they rushed through this socialist spending spree.

I proudly voted NO on this atrocious bill in defense of our taxpayers.
