Last week in the House of Representatives was highlighted by important hearings, votes to reign in the far-left government of Washington, DC, and President Biden’s 2023 State of the Union Address. On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee questioned U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agents on new updates from the frontlines of the border crisis. During the hearing, my Democratic colleagues asserted that our objective in holding the hearing was white nationalism, and they even denied the existence of criminal elements at the border. I was quick to correct the record. I told my colleagues that if they genuinely believed our good-faith investigation into President Biden’s mishandling of the border was racism, they could speak with me one-on-one. Unsurprisingly, there were no takers. This was a serious hearing and unserious racial attacks must be called out and condemned for what they are: cowardly and pathetic. I also explained that when I was at the border, I saw first-hand, empty Plan B packages strewn about–a direct result of the rise of the sexual assaults of women and girls on their journey across our border. Our committee also held a hearing to investigate Twitter’s role in the censorship and suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story. During the hearing, I highlighted an email exchange from October 24, 2020, in which officials at Twitter discussed “handling” various tweets that were flagged to the platform for takedown by the Biden Presidential campaign. The Twitter executives at our hearing repeatedly stated that they could not recall who from the Biden team they communicated with, but when shown this email exchange, which included random URLs of tweets, they were acutely aware of the details of each specific URL. We need answers! On Tuesday night, President Biden gave his State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress but only mentioned key issues like China and the Southern Border for mere seconds. Instead, Biden chose to focus his primetime speech on issues such as hotel fees, attacking our police, banning our guns, and banning the use of oil. Biden’s "State of Confusion" was emblematic of his failed presidency. During his speech, Biden even made the outlandish claim that he acted to protect our country in shooting down the Chinese spy balloon. He forgot to mention the military only shot the balloon down after it traversed the span of our entire country. Ironically, only days after this comment, his administration ended our country’s own balloon program used to track “got-aways” at the border. Consequently, we will now have inaccurate statistics on who is illegally entering our country. On the legislative front, our House Republican majority passed three important bills to condemn the Chinese spy balloon, repeal Washington, D.C.’s newly proposed pro-crime, criminal code, and repeal Washington, D.C.’s law to allow non-citizens to vote in our elections. Washington, D.C.’s proposed criminal code would reduce penalties, sentencing and grant misdemeanor cases a jury trial. In a city where sexual abuse is up 117%, carjackings are up 86%, property crime is up 26% and homicides are up 20%, the last thing they need are policies that support criminals over cops. It is unfortunate that we also had to re-emphasize the simple notion that non-citizens in our country should not be voting to elect the leaders of our country. Most importantly, I am proud to have introduced the bipartisan Water Quality & Environmental Innovation Act. This bill will repurpose unused federal dollars to fund innovative projects to address various water quality challenges such as harmful algal blooms (HABs). I am proud to have introduced this practical and commonsense measure to address the water quality problems that we know all too well in Southwest Florida.
As your Congressman, you have my commitment to work on your behalf and restore order and proper governance to The People's House.

Rep. Donalds Announces Assignment to House Financial Services Committee ESG Working Group
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) announced his assignment to the House Financial Services Committee’s Republican ESG Working Group. The working group will combat the threat to our capital markets posed by those on the far-left pushing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) proposals.
“As the far-left continues their march through our institutions, Republicans must develop a coordinated strategy to fight back against the mob rule mentality of environmental, social and governance (ESG) proposals in the business world. ESG’s are simply the latest ploy of progressives to consolidate power over We The People. What started with the media and our educational institutions cannot become a standard for tens of thousands of businesses across our country. I am proud to be assigned to Rep. Huizenga’s (R-MI) ESG Working Group and I look forward to fighting back against the political intrusion of the far-left into every facet of our lives,” said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL).
“Progressives are trying to do with American businesses what they already did to our public education system—using our institutions to force their far-left ideology on the American people. Their latest tool in these efforts is environmental, social, and governance proposals. This is why I am creating a Republican ESG working group led by Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee Chair Bill Huizenga. This group will develop a comprehensive approach to ESG that protects the financial interests of everyday investors and ensures our capital markets remain the envy of the world. Financial Services Committee Republicans as a whole will continue our work to expand capital formation, hold Biden’s rogue regulators accountable, and support American job creators,” said House Financial Services Committee Chairman McHenry (R-NC).
“Last year, the Supreme Court ruled in West Virginia vs EPA that government bureaucracies cannot arbitrarily expand their own regulatory reach. The SEC’s climate disclosure rule is a prime example of this overreach- that would have a wide-ranging impact on hard working Americans across all walks of life. I look forward to leading our committee’s ESG working group, which will focus on promoting strong, vibrant capital markets, while defending the interests of all retail investors,” said Working Group Leader Bill Huizenga (R-MI).

Rep. Donalds Joins McHenry And Hill For The Reintroduction Of The Finance Nuclear Energy At The Work Bank And Other International Lenders WASHINGTON – Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and Congressman French Hill (R-AR) for the reintroduction of the International Nuclear Energy Financing Act. This legislation, first introduced in 2021, would bring back financing for nuclear power at the World Bank and other international financial institutions. “China is eating our lunch concerning the advancement of nuclear energy, and it's high time for the United States government to advocate for itself and regain its dominance across the board––especially regarding our nuclear capabilities,” said Congressman Donalds. “I proudly supported this commonsense legislation in the 117th Congress, and I'm proud to do it again in the new House GOP majority. Nuclear energy stands at the forefront of the renewable energy renaissance, and U.S. policy must allow this industry to flourish independent of burdensome and mundane regulations and red tape.”
“By allowing bad actors like China to dominate global energy financing, the United States is endorsing our opponents’ export of inferior nuclear technology to fuel international development,” said Chairman McHenry. “For America to continue leading the world in reducing carbon emissions, we must commit to financing the production of safe, clean, and reliable nuclear energy in emerging markets. Pushing the World Bank—the leading multilateral lender for developing countries—to finance clean nuclear energy will mitigate climate change, while helping the Bank deliver on its anti-poverty mission. I’m proud to reintroduce this critical legislation with my friend Congressman Hill to combat the Chinese Communist Party’s malign influence abroad and reduce global carbon emissions.”
"For years, we have listened to calls for climate action, yet have seen little action,” said Congressman Hill. “The International Nuclear Energy Financing Act would require U.S. representatives at multilateral development banks to advocate for nuclear energy projects. With China and India continuing to push for nuclear energy deals around the world, I urge the Biden Administration to prioritize nuclear support through the World Bank and other multilateral lenders where the U.S. is a top shareholder. Nuclear energy must be a part of an ‘all-of-the-above’ approach to energy and national security in America and around the world, and I support Chairman McHenry’s legislation to accomplish this.”
Background:
- The International Nuclear Energy Financing Act would require the United States Executive Director at the World Bank to advocate and vote for financial assistance for nuclear energy. The bill would also permit U.S. representatives at other international financial institutions – including regional development banks for Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America – to push for nuclear projects. Taken together, the multilateral development banks can commit over $100 billion in annual financing.
- The World Bank last approved a nuclear energy project more than 60 years ago, and other multilateral development banks have refrained from supporting nuclear power. At a time when the United States already finances nuclear energy abroad through the Export-Import Bank, it makes sense for the World Bank and other international financial institutions to embrace this clean energy source.

Rep. Donalds Introduces Bipartisan Bill To Repurpose Federal Waste Into Innovative Environmental Restoration WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Donalds issued the following statement on his introduction of the bipartisan H.R.873––the Water Quality & Environmental Innovation Act. The bill seeks to repurpose unused federal dollars to fund innovative projects that utilize emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, eDNA, aquatic muck harvesting, etc. These projects will address various water quality challenges, such as harmful algal blooms (HABs), sea-level rise, acidification, pollution, erosion, hydraulic alterations, etc. The bill is co-led by Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ).
“Every day, nutrient-filled water flows into Lake Okeechobee and is subsequently discharged throughout East, West and South Florida¬––ultimately resulting in poor water quality and the outbreak of HABs. We know all too well that this is a bipartisan challenge that must be addressed. This practical bill is a commonsense measure that will turn unused government waste into environmental restoration. I am proud to introduce this bill on a bipartisan basis to directly assist Southwest Florida and communities throughout our country,” said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL).
"Harmful Algal Blooms have wreaked havoc on New Jersey's lakes, our businesses, our families, and our broader community. This is an environmental crisis, which is why we’ve successfully pushed the State of New Jersey for targeted local investment, and why we've successfully clawed back federal investment through the American Rescue Plan, to continue our work to prevent another summer of algae," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). "With this new bipartisan legislation, I'm working with my colleague Congressman Byron Donalds to utilize innovative, emerging technologies to ensure our lake water is safe for visitors this summer and help stabilize tourism and the economy in our lake communities. I will continue fighting for clean water on behalf of New Jersey families and businesses of all sizes.”
