WASHINGTON––Yesterday, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) testified at the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Policy at a hearing entitled “The Student Burden and Its Impact on Racial Justice, Borrowers, & The Economy.”
“Policy proposals like student debt forgiveness will ultimately force individuals at the lower end of the income spectrum, which trends more Black than White, to pay for the liberal arts education of privileged students. Democrats are hoodwinking the American people into thinking minorities and lower-income Americans will be the main beneficiaries of student debt forgiveness policies. Democrats do not tell you that the top 30 percent of earners will receive almost half of all dollars forgiven. We must have an honest conversation about the Democrat’s loan forgiveness policy. If the ultimate goal is to increase the cost of going to college, the Democrat plan will do just that.”
