Last week, my office was hard at work on Capitol Hill, introducing legislative proposals, passing bills and holding the Biden administration accountable. The Biden administration has pursued an out-of-touch, far-left agenda, that has harmed our markets with aggressive and dismissive rule-making policy. Now more than ever, Congressional oversight of our exceedingly complacent and restrictive federal bureaucracy is crucial. This is why last week, I introduced the first four bills of my 2023-24 accountability legislative package, to demand transparency, compliance, and order from the otherwise non-compliant Washington swamp.
The first bill of my accountability package is H.R. 3901 – The Agency Subpoena Compliance Act, which establishes procedures to reduce agency funding for failure to comply with lawful subpoenas. This bill leverages Congressional power of the purse, protects transparency for the American people and advances federal government accountability. My second bill is H.R. 4112 – The Symmetry in Rules Act (SIR Act), which prohibits the SEC from issuing conflicting rules and requires SEC to consider the industry cost of complying with multiple rules. This bill amends the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, slashes the red tape of the federal bureaucracy and promotes fiscal responsibility in government.
The third bill of my accountability package is H.R. 4113 – The No Altering Public Comments Act, which prohibits agencies from removing or altering public comments on their agency websites. This bill ensures federal agencies keep their word, demands transparency and fosters a new culture of agency accountability. Finally, my fourth accountability bill is H.R. 4114 – The Agency Accountability Through Appropriations Act (AAA Act), which gives members the ability to determine whether certain rules adhere to an agency’s original congressional intent. This bill restores the original intent of federal agencies, combats political activism in federal agencies and leverages Congressional power of the purse.
Last week, I also introduced two other pieces of legislation. H.R. 4161 – The Pre-Pilot Pathway Act (PPP Act), directs the FAA to create a voluntary apprenticeship program at all Part 141 flight schools across America. This bill bolsters America’s commercial pilot pipeline, addresses America’s critical pilot shortage and offers commonsense bipartisan solutions to an important problem in our country. My other bill, H.Res. 515 – The Florida Everblades Back-To-Back Champions Resolution, commends Estero’s Florida Everblades professional ice hockey team for winning the 2022-23 East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) Patrick J. Kelly Cup. Our hometown Everblades are not only back-to-back champions, but swept the Kelly Cup Finals and now have won the most championships in league history. Congratulations to our back-to-back champions and thank you for representing the very best of our Southwest Florida community.
On the floor of the House, our Republican majority passed various meaningful bills last week including legislation to prohibit the Biden DOE from banning gas stoves across our nation, rein in federal spending, modify the scope of judicial review of federal agencies and nullify the ATF’s pistol brace rule. It is a valid question to ask whether Democratic politicians have ever seen a pistol brace, because it is simply a plastic accessory that allows those with arm injuries to utilize their 2A rights. This ATF rule made millions of gun owners, overnight felons and it is a gross violation of separation of powers. I am proud to have voted to nullify this rule.
Finally, as a member of the Republican Study Committee’s Budget Task Force, I helped in introducing our proposed FY’24 Congressional Budget. Our proposal balances in seven years, secures the border, preserves Social Security and Medicare, cuts wasteful spending across the board and allows us to become energy independent again. These are all things that must be done for our country to thrive, but Washington has completely neglected for years. This is a real budget with real policy that makes our country more innovative, allows us to succeed and sustains benefits for seniors. I challenge my GOP colleagues to support our proposal because it is the pathway to a balanced budget.
As your Congressman, you have my commitment to work on your behalf and restore order and proper governance to The People's House.
