Last week, I was back in our Nation's Capitol as the House of Representatives resumed legislative business and Democrats continued their efforts to chip away at your constitutional freedoms.
As many of you are aware, last week, the United States Supreme Court issued two monumental decisions on issues related to the Second Amendment and abortion. Both conclusions are a massive win for liberty, freedom, and the future of our Republic. As anticipated, the media and Democrats are using these historic rulings to fire up their weary base with falsehoods, exaggerations, and worse, calls to dismantle and discredit the High Court. Following the decisions, Democrat leaders called for Americans to "armor up" and "take to the streets" and also renewed calls to "pack the court." These actions are irresponsible, dangerous, and un-American.
On Thursday, the SCOTUS ruled in a 6-3 decision that Americans have the right to carry firearms publicly for self-defense, reaffirming the authority given to every law-abiding American under the Second Amendment. Additionally, last week the House of Representatives voted on a so-call bipartisan gun bill in the wake of the horrific shooting in Uvalde; I voted against this knee-jerk reaction bill. My NO vote was not against some of the common-sense provisions in the legislation, like school hardening and mental health funding, but against the concerning additions that infringe on your 14th and 15th Amendment rights in the form of Red Flag Laws. As we saw with the SCOTUS ruling—shall not be infringed stands as the rule of law, and I will always fight for your constitutional freedoms.
Furthermore, the Court also issued a historic ruling on the ever-so-controversial issue of abortion. As a pro-life American, I couldn't be more thrilled by the Court's decision. As a Constitutional Conservative, I celebrate this long-overdue realignment to the rule of law and the 10th Amendment. The original ruling nearly 50 years ago was a stain on the Court and spoke to a more significant issue of judicial activism by members of the Supreme Court acting as members of a legislative body, not a judicial one. Contrary to news reports, abortions will remain legal in nearly half of all states, including in many deep blue states where most of the outrage stems. The Court's ruling has nothing to do with "your body" and "your choice," it has everything to do with the constitutionality of the practice of abortion, which is NOT your right, which is why it's now going back to individual states for THE PEOPLE to decide.
Lastly, while I am delighted with the two outcomes, now is not the time to take a victory dance in the political endzone. Our nation remains heavily divided, and emotions are very high. Instead of spiking the football, I will stay laser-focused on preserving your constitutional rights amid continuous threats to them by the radical left. We are a nation governed by our sacred founding document, the United States Constitution, and we must not waiver from this fact.
