Last week, the House of Representatives remained in recess, awarding me ample time to celebrate Small Business Week and tour various businesses throughout Southwest Florida. Traveling Florida 19th Congressional Districts' businesses is one of the many great joys in my role as your Congressman. I am constantly blown away by our business community's hard work and ingenuity that fuel our economy, state, and nation. As many of you know, the Biden administration is outwardly engaging in one of the worst assaults on the First Amendment by creating the DHS' "Disinformation Governance Board." Rather than focusing on policing free speech, the DHS and Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should instead focus their concern on the unprecedented crisis occurring at our southern border. This Orwellian-style attack on our ability to think and speak freely directly threatens our constitutional republic. The same agency that is overtly lying about the worsening crisis on the border will now be in charge of distinguishing what is true or false. This is nonsensical, and I'll do everything to ensure this plan fails. This calculated attempt by Democrats to deem conservative and/or differing viewpoints as "disinformation" is their attempt to control the concept of truth and police freedom of thought. To make matters worse, Nina Jankowicz, the radical liberal positioned to lead this board, is just another puppet of the left. Ms. Jankowicz labeled the Hunter Biden laptop story as "Russian disinformation" and continues to undermine the legitimacy of Critical Race Theory in our children's schools. Her radical stances are an obvious disqualification from being able to run anything within the government, let alone a truth board. I am proudly standing up against this blatant infringement in defense of the principles of individual liberty upon which the United States was founded.
